Crispy Soy Garlic Tofu

Crispy Soy Garlic Tofu

This crispy soy garlic tofu is super delicious, it’s delicious for any meal! First, you bake the tofu in the oven until it’s nice and crispy, then toss it in a sticky sauce made from fresh garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and scallions.

This totally gives the tofu a big flavor boost, as on its one it’s pretty bland! The recipe is super easy and healthy, as the tofu is baked (you can also air-fry) and then tossed in the sauce. And of course, it’s vegetarian (vegan as well)!

I love making this tofu and eating it with rice (check out my fried rice recipe) and garlic soy bok choy!

Ingredients

  • 16 oz extra firm tofu
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp chinese five spice
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 8 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 scallions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ºF. Dry your tofu really well. Then, cut your tofu into small cubes (roughly 1″ on all sides) and add to a bowl. Toss with salt, pepper, cornstarch, and five spice until every cube is fully coated. Spread the tofu on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly browned, flipping half way through.
  2. After the tofu is done, add sesame oil to a pan (I use cast iron but you can use whatever pan). Let it heat up then add the fresh minced ginger and garlic. Saute for a minute until lightly golden, then add the soy sauce and brown sugar and let it reduce for 3 minutes. Add the tofu and the scallions, mix to coat all the cubes, and enjoy!
