Homemade Croutons

Homemade Croutons

These homemade croutons are ten times better than storebought ones. They’re so customizable, you could make them with any bread you have at home. Hey, it’d probably take longer to run to the store and buy croutons rather than make them yourself.

These croutons are super versatile, I love to use them in my homemade caesar salad (and other salads of course). You can also grind them down and make them into breadcrumbs, which would be great to top my creamy mac and cheese.

In the picture, you can see that I used my homemade challah to make the croutons. However, I also love using my artisan bread or just a store-bought baguette!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread of choice
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tbsp parmesan (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ºF. Cut or rip your bread into crouton-sized pieces (I find that using kitchen scissors makes this really easy) and add to a parchment lined baking sheet.
  2. Drizzle over the olive oil and sprinkle the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan. Shake the tray or use your hands to make sure the croutons are evenly coated.
  3. Bake for 7-10 minutes until the croutons are lightly browned and crispy. Add to your favorite salad and enjoy!
